What is Reiki

Reiki (Ray-ki) is an ancient form of laying of hands healing. Reiki translates as “Universal Life Force Energy”. It is based on the theory (fact :)) that everything around us and within us is animated by an universal energy field.

Its practice and teachings were introduced in Japan  by Dr. Mikao Usui (1865 – 1926), a Buddhist monk who received access to the healing energy and its codes through meditation. Since then, Reiki has taken root all around the world.

When things get out of balance due to our lifestyles, thought patterns, trauma, etc. Reiki can help rebalance our physical and energetic fields, promoting healing and restoring our connection with the energy field.

As a holistic therapy, it can help with our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. It has been proven to alleviate acute and chronic pain, reduce and eliminate stress and anxiety, build self-confidence and a positive mindset, improve sleep, promote wound healing and reduce side effects of chemotherapy treatments.

A Reiki healing session involves the therapist laying their hands gently and non-invasively on, or just hovering them a few inches above the healee’s body. The hands are moved systematically, starting from the head, working towards the feet for an even distribution of therapy. Sometimes, more time is spent over the area of the body where disease or discomfort is known to be.

Reiki can also be sent remotely anywhere in the world, a date and time are agreed upon, the healer will focus on the person receiving the Reiki while they are sure to rest and receive healing at that time.

During the session various sensations may be felt, like intense heat, coldness, pressure or tingling. Some people experience seeing light and/or colours as well. Most people experience feeling very cold after a session, so bringing an extra layer and warm socks is advised.
