How I work

The thing you should know about me is that I love what I do. Acupuncture is my passion, I discovered it in my teens and has been part of my life ever since. I began my formal training 9 years ago and I have been working as an acupuncturist ever since.

The biggest part of my practice is given to supporting women at different stages or cycles of their lives. I work with women trying to conceive either naturally or with IUI or IVF, in pregnancy and in preparation for childbirth.

I work with women with hormonal imbalances, stress, anxiety, mild depression, migraines, allergies and skin complaints. I am highly trained in Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture for women who want to look and feel their best naturally.

The two things I love most about Chinese Medicine are; that it has a very special respect for the individual and the complexity of the human mind and body. Each person is unique.

If you have been given a medical diagnosis or your symptoms are unexplained then you will know that many different factors contribute to your situation and experience. This is why I take care to understand your needs and tailor a treatment specifically for what you need.

Secondly, acupuncture works with the body, not against it, by tapping into the body’s own resources and inherent healing processes. Quite often the intention is to boost the function of a specific organ system, say the circulatory system or to calm a system that has become hypersensitive or overburdened such as can happen in allergic responses or with stress. It is really about finding a better equilibrium so that your body and mind returns to a healthy state of being. This has always appealed to me.

Furthermore, it is safe and drug free, which means that you can use it with complete peace of mind.

Learning the art of Chinese Medicine has been my purpose and privilege and this informs my commitment to you if we decide to work together. I offer a personal guarantee on all of my treatments so that you can have the confidence to try acupuncture for yourself.

Training and qualifications

I studied traditional acupuncture for three years at the University of Lincoln where I was awarded a Batchelor of Science honorary degree (BSc Hons) in traditional Chinese Medicine with the specialisation of acupuncture.

I also hold a postgraduate diploma in Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture having trained first hand with the very best in the field, Virginia Doran of New York, who pioneered cosmetic acupuncture in the West.

As a registered member of the British Acupuncture Council (LicAC MBAcC), I am obliged to follow strict codes of practice and ethics with stringent standards of hygiene and sterilisation. These procedures have been approved by the Department of Health. All members are professionally insured.

My acupuncture is recognised by Westfield Health insurance scheme for the treatment of certain medical conditions.

I specialise in

Fertility Support and Pregnancy

If undergoing a course of IVF or IUI, acupuncture can be used to improve your chances of a successful outcome. I follow the Paulus protocol so that you can be assured that the treatments you receive have been clinically trialed. I recommend you begin acupuncture sessions 2 months prior to treatment in order to have the best effect.

In pregnancy, acupuncture is a safe treatment option to help manage a number of pregnancy related conditions and, when labour is overdue, it can be very effective in inducing its onset.

Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture

Also referred to as cosmetic acupuncture, this therapy addresses the outer signs of ageing as well as the underlying factors that affect the way we age. The result is a naturally more youthful appearance and improved overall health.

Reports show that with a course of treatment it is possible to eliminate fine lines and reduce larger wrinkles as acupuncture works to increase the body’s natural collagen production. Acupuncture also stimulates blood and lymph circulation to the head, regulates hormones and reduces stress, all of which can have a dramatic effect on the skin and the way we look. Other benefits include reduced puffiness, tightened pores and improved muscle tone.Cosmetic acupuncture is a new introduction to the West but Chinese doctors used it for thousands of years to combat the signs of ageing and treat skin conditions. Today facial revitalisation acupuncture is being rediscovered as the natural alternative to botox, fillers and cosmetic surgery.

I have recently had my first appointment with Jo. From walking through the door at the start of the appointment to leaving I was made to feel so welcome. She made me feel at ease throughout the appointment. Not only is she a great listener she also shared valuable advice and information too. I came away feeling both re-energised and relaxed at the same time and ready for the changes I face over the coming weeks. I would highly recommend  Jo to anyone going through the process of IVF.
